FMM062 – Guard the factory of your mind

There’s a truth in the saying “You are what you eat”.

This also applies to what we surround ourselves with.

If we surround ourselves with negative influences, then our energy drops and new limiting beliefs will start to form and any existing ones will be reinforced.

But…
If we surround ourselves with positive influences, we feel inspired and we feel empowered to chase down our goals in both life and music.

In this episode, I talk about guarding the factory of your mind and how you can surround yourself with influences that are going to give you the best chance of reaching your version of success.

Key Takeaways:

  • “Positive people and influences are the fuel that will power you towards reaching your music goals”
  • “Minimise the rubbish and maximize the good stuff that is empowering, inspiring, and motivating you.”
  • Your brain loves reinforcement so open the positive evidence funnels in your brain.”

FMM061 – Does your music define you?

As music producers we put a lot of personal value in the music that we create, but should we let it define us?

Definitely not!

This can be a dangerous game because when we do this, we get hurt by our own or someone else’s opinion of our music. This can then lead us to avoiding writing music because we don’t want to hurt ourselves any further.

I see this scenario holding back a lot of music producers when they pin their own personal values and self worth on the quality of their music.

So what can we do about it?

In this episode, I share with you how to overcome this limiting belief and my personal strategies to ensure that my music does not define who I am, enabling me to push forward and finish tracks on a regular basis

Key Takeaways:

  • “Would you tell your friend they suck if you don’t like one of their tracks? Then don’t do it to yourself!”
  • Your music doesn’t define you.
  • The importance of focusing on your deepest “Whys”
  • Feelings are temporary, the thing that lights you up about your music is permanent.

Before sharing or putting out our music, we often ask ourselves these questions:

Is my track structured well?

Is it too repetitive?

Is it too predictable?

Is my music good or bad?

In this episode, we’re going to be talking about the criteria on which we can measure our music before putting it out into the world to ensure it has the success that we want it to have.

FMM058 – Weakening The Grip Perfectionism Has On You

PERFECTIONISM!

We’ve all at one point suffered from this belief that everything we need to do and put out in the world needs to be perfect.

So we say things like:

“I don’t want to put this out there because it’s not perfect.”

“This track is still missing something so I need to keep working on it.”

“Everything is great but I think the drums can be better.”

STOP!

It doesn’t. It’s just perfectionism tightening its grip on you and holding you back from achieving the best version of yourself and your music.

So in this episode, I’m going to be sharing with you a new perspective on perfectionism or any other fears that are holding you back so you can go full steam ahead towards reaching your goals and hitting the targets that you’ve set for yourself with music.

Key Takeaways:

  • “Striving for perfectionism doesn’t get us to our goal”
  • The more music you finish, the more chance you will succeed!
  • “By holding onto this belief, I’m creating the very problem that I’m trying to stay safe from. “

FMM057 – You have the power to change but do you believe it?

Ever say this to yourself?

“I’m the person who does this…”
“I’m the person who does X everyday…”
“I’m an X and that is who I am…”

We’ve all said this before. We all have that one identifier that we think makes us who we are, and it is always hard to make any changes due to our beliefs. However…

Is this belief holding us back from moving forward? Are we resisting CHANGE and letting it affect our progress?

Change is difficult for everyone but it’s most difficult when we’re trying to change something that we’ve been holding onto because of our core beliefs.

So for this episode, I’m going to share with you my insights on how you can identify that one belief that may be holding you back and what you can do to empower change so you can achieve your version of success

Key Takeaways:

  • “You have the power to change, but do you believe it?”
  • “Go from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.”
  • “Identify what you really want in your life, look at the kind of person you need to be to get it.”

Sorley: How I Create Banging Tech House

So YouTube ruined our party last week, but we are back as promised with another insight into Loui Brown aka Sorley’s production workflow. This time round Sorley shows us how he quickly generates ideas using a bespoke starting template, how organises his sound pallet, plus how he takes an initial loop and quickly gets the bulk of a song arrangement completed in minutes! If you want to discover how this rising star in the Tech House scene sets himself up for success, you will not want to miss this one!

Transcript

Soon as I start like a pig chicks are, and then I thought so if I press play on them these will just start be a strong group, and you can see how quickly I can get from one just because of all that sounds out they got no work and I’ve got like a little grill template. I think Bonnie groom the other grooves and the swings I like, see of them the temp there, now you’ve got the gears of a truck there and I’ll just jump into the beer sign, got like corn settle straw ‘coz I  don’t really know if it’s hot you saw I don’t know if I want to pick a key I’ll just go there yeah Mike I know but in there put that on along yeah there sighing boy, and then after I’ve done that I’ll start finding some other sounds so I might jump another synth. I don’t want singsong yes cause Mike, yeah,  we can just see how quickly I get an idea down, and then once I’ve got like a little point in the truck I’ll start looking for boils if I want to add balls. Right, so you basically get the groove locked in which is there to sort of killer part of the the tech house track and then you’re looking to their actual it goes on simply just like nice quick in Ag and then like it’s home for site a it put there’s a good few years to settle for any juices out there this and series almost five on the future get and the

sounds that you like and the plugins that lean or not like the rebellion like find sounds and like surfing through a sample paths because we’ve already done it, yeah, totally tightening what else something so this is me like sound bunk down the side so I’ve talked army fear that loops from

all the sandbox I’ve got, I’m just looking out over in a few I’m quite quick in this process just to get and idea down and then it’s slow technique oh yes well you swallow them go down this preserve bit here and you click this little are also it’s pointing right, yeah, get the gate going on any of them sounds that I don’t like, I’ll either click the mode buy that or I would drag them over in a Korean view and chop them up yourself and then put them back in, right, so yeah, pretty much to be asleep under that I’ve not for likes and stuff yeah wicked that’s the low bass or devil open it isn’t too much,  you’ll see all the changes coming in, so these the second. So once you’ve got that,  that’s we now know that we’ve got multiple sets of eight bars that will work and they all flow and therefore, you know you’ve got enough to build the arrangement,  yesterday so I’ve got blocked out and I just see it out to around about a minute duplicate that along. I’ve got a minute and then I’ll just make that into a bucket and then I know I like this bit here on the right hand side floors so I  could just tear it up, it there and that all that now sitting much got the body

of the truck when I just do another three on top of that for my length it’s there and it’s fed up my work board quick. Brilliant, really really good,  Nick Mo is saying this is a wicked tuna vocal  will destroy it collapse.
