This Ableton Drum Rack Tutorial shows you how to use choke groups for a classic house music feel. This technique works equally well for Deep House, Tech House and any other electronic dance music genres.
The choke groups can be used to enhance the groove and keep a nice clean sound in the drum loop. We use the technique on hi hats but it’s also great for percussion and other drum sounds (even bass and synth stabs can work well!)
We assign a set of pads in the drum rack to the same choke group and when each pad is played it cuts of the audio of any other drums in the choke group. Be sure to leave a long release in Ableton’s Simpler device and create a MIDI pattern with some notes that overlap.
Super quick and guaranteed solid results every time!
A killer groove is vital in electronic dance music.
The next Ableton Live tutorial will be posted same time next week.
