Root notes, Parallel Compression & Making a living from music production
TODAY’S QUESTIONS:
Q1: In my drum mix, I have the snare and the kick playing but when the kick drops out the snare is getting too loud. Why is this happening and what can I do about it?
Q2: I have two tracks signed at the moment and an offer for a third. Can I make a living from music production or will it only ever be a side project?
Q3: How do you determine the root note of a track? When I’m coming up with an idea I don’t start by picking a root note, I just produce.
Q4: What is the best way to do parallel compression? I’ve seen a number of different methods including using compressors that have dry wet controls, duplicating channels, grouping, etc. What do you recommend?
