This Ableton Drums Tutorial shows you how to use groove pool quantize to balance out your recorded drums in real time so they retain a realistic human feel whilst remaining tight to the groove.
Underground electronic music such as Deep House, Techno and Tech House rely on a killer groove so mastering this area of music production is vital.
Ableton Live 9 contains a wealth of grooves but sometimes you want to create your own swing and this technique is perfect for fine tuning any recordings or edits you make.
We start with a drum pattern and add our own hi hats that feel a little too loose for the groove. To find the perfect balance we introduce a groove from the groove pool but remove the actual swing and velocity. This allows us to keep our own human feel and then tighten up the hats using the Quantize parameters of the groove file.
Although we focus on drums in this tutorial be sure to try out the technique on other instruments such as leads and bass lines.
Adding movement and interest to your tracks is vital to capture the listener’s interest.
The next Ableton Live tutorial will be posted same time next week.
